STEM & Immersive Technologies- Learning Unit

Learning Goals & Objectives

Participants will be learning what STEM is and what are some of the different career branches within the field of STEM. Participants will also learn what the following immersive technologies are: augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR) and how they can be integrated in their classroom. The instructor will then teach a sample mini lesson, which integrates immersive technologies, so participants can experience using these immersive technologies themselves to learn more about plant cells. After the mini lesson is presented, participants will then be asked to reflect how the use of immersive technologies impacted their learning and brainstorm ways in which they can integrate immersive technology into one of their own lessons.

Embryonic Stem Cells

At the completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Define what is STEM education.

  • Identify 4 different branches of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

  • List 3 characteristics of each of the following immersive technologies: augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR).

  • Compare and contrast the following immersive technologies: augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR).

  • Discuss how the integration of immersive technologies during the science mini lesson impacted their learning.

  • Develop a mini lesson which integrates an immersive technology.
