What is STEM?

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Since we live in a complex and technological world, it is very important that we prepare our nation's youth with STEM skills such as: the ability to solve problems, assess data, and innovate. All of these STEM skills are crucial in securing our nation's economic prosperity and meeting the demands of an evolving workforce (U.S. Department of Education, n.d.). 

Science

Branches of science include: astronomy, biology, chemistry, ecology, psychology, geology, physics, etc.

Technology

Branches of technology include: computer science, information technology, artificial intelligence, robotics, etc.

Engineering

Branches of engineering include: mechanical, chemical, civil, industrial, aerospace, biomedical, nuclear, etc.

Mathematics

Branches of mathematics include: algebra, calculus, geometry, statistics, etc.
